Crown Vantage Side Channel Remediation Project (2020-2021)
Site Home / Crown Vantage

In early 2021, I noticed that some work was going on behind the old landfill near the Kalamazoo River. Some Googling revealed that the purpose of the project is to remove PCB-contaminated sediments from what the EPA is calling the Crown Vantage Side Channel, which is a backwater area of the Kalamazoo River adjacent to the landfill. As far as I know, this mill never processed carbonless copy paper which is the usual main source of paper industry related PCB contamination in the area. Perhaps I am mistaken about this, or maybe the sediments came down the river from other mills and were deposited there.
